Come over
let’s go out and play in the rain
we’ll put on our old sneakers
the ones with the holes in the toes
splash through the puddles
’til our feet are soaking wet.
Come over
bring some of your little green army men
we’ll put ’em on pieces of cardboard
watch ’em race the gutter
chase them like madwomen
’til they wash down the sewer drain
stomp through some puddles
then do it all over again.
Raise our faces towards the sky
and let Jesus have his cry,
laugh in the face of anguish,
laugh out loud at sadness.
Come over
let’s go out and play in the rain
we’ll put on our old sneakers
the ones with the holes in the toes
splash through the puddles
’til our feet are so cold
we can’t feel ’em.
Come over
let’s go out and play
in the rain
we’ll laugh out loud at sadness
