Sometimes,
deeper than my need for change,
underneath the practice of nonattachment
I want to attach,
to latch on like infant to nipple.
To trust in the solid, secure
unconditional
“I will love you even if…”
Sometimes,
underneath the patience and breath,
lurking around the corner of “it’s all good,”
I want to insist on right now, damnit.
I want to bypass the time I know it takes
for meat to cure
and wine to mature,
even while knowing full well,
it
isn’t
really
possible.
I am walking on the sharp edge now,
and the drop is on both sides,
and sometimes,
sometimes,
deeper than my need for dancing barefoot in the shifting sand
are feet that hunger for thick soles
and flat, solid ground.
