Utterance

How utterly unmistakable
your rejection
was.

How many countless seconds
turned to minutes
forming hours
becoming days
How many did I wait(?)
wondering,
hoping you’d speak to
utter one word or
whisper goodbye . . .

But I heard nothing.
Your lips were silent,
unmoving
except in dreams
when the worshipped lips I’ve
often kissed
moved with a hushed eloquence.

You never spoke to
utter one word. You
never took of my
wasted minutes
even one
to whisper goodbye
