Home Stay
My partner, Susan, and I moved to Colorado in July of 2006 so that I could work on my masters in Somatic Counseling Psychology at Naropa University. Also, we had both been living in Wisconsin for several years and, although we love the four seasons, we were ready to leave the harsh winters. We both love the mountains and outdoor activities so Colorado has been a great choice for us.
We fell in love with Louisville on our first visit out here. Louisville has an awesome community and we developed our own community on the two visits we had before we'd even moved. We had new friends bending over backwards to make our transition less cumbersome. People we barely knew offered us their home, closed their shop to help us make our flight back to Madison, and my new yoga teacher's son helped us unpack the truck. In 2006, Louisville was ranked first in the Best Places to Raise a Family book. In 2007 it was voted 3rd Best Place to Live by Money magazine. (Personally, we think it's the 1st best place to live). Louisville is located about 8 miles South of Boulder, and 25 miles north of Denver. There is a wonderful transit system that easily travels to both places. We have several bikes on hand, which are available for use. There's an amazing biking - hiking - riding trail half a block away. Riding stables are less than a mile from us. Our home also has modern shopping centers close by, and an adorable old town in the opposite direction. Our house is about 1.5 miles from each.
And speaking of our home, we love that too. One of the things we love about it, is that there's space to accommodate visitors. I often travel to other cities to attend workshops in yoga, dance, and psychotherapy. I find hotels, not only expensive, but incredibly sterile. I'm much happier when I can find a home away from home. That's why my partner and I decided to open our home to kindhearted adults. We should mention that we have two cats, so if you've got allergies, this isn't the right homestay for you. Also, since we have cats, we can't accommodate other pets.
The house is on a small cul-de-sac and is a bi-level home, which means when you come in the house you either go upstairs or downstairs. All the windows have been recently replaced to provide the best insulation possible. In fact, we've spent the last six months making eco-friendly improvements. The downstairs (the main homestay area) has all been recently painted with no-VOC paint.
Half of the downstairs is underground and the windows are just above ground level. The downstairs is the main guest level of 800+ square feet. There is a sitting area with a TV that can be rolled out, a computer nook with wireless internet access, a yoga space that will fit about 6 mats, and the guest bedroom. The guest bedroom looks out on the backyard and has a full size bed. These three areas have new bamboo flooring.
There is a second room available to guests. This room is normally the treatment room, so to modify for homestayers we remove the massage table and place an air mattress in the room. The floor in this room is made of eco-friendly cork. For larger groups wanting to pile-up like puppies, we can add an additional air mattresses in the yoga space. Also on this floor is the guest bathroom which is a 3/4 bath complete with laundry facilities.
Upstairs is our main living area, the dining room and kitchen. Homestayers are welcome to fully use the kitchen and dining areas (and the main living area upon invitation). Homestayers can also use whatever food we may have on hand, and are asked to make a contribution based on their food usage.
Because this is our home, we're careful about who stays with us. If you'd like to stay with us, please call us for a password to access more information about homestaying with us. If you have the password, please click here to link to the page which provides more information on homestaying with us. Click here for the homestay flyer.

I am currently not teaching yoga as I am recovering from knee surgery - I don't imagine I'll be regularly teaching public yoga classes until the end of the summer. I will provide private sessions as my knee permit. Please see the Yoga Elements website for local classes by other teachers.
